The Desert's Past: A Natural Prehistory of the Great Basin
Published in Hardcover by Smithsonian Institution Press (October, 1993)
Average review score:

Excellent book for readers interested in the PleistoceneThis book provides a wealth of information about the Pleistocene history of the Great Basin. Grayson covers numerous aspects of the Great Basin's natural history including: Geology, Geomorphology, Paleoclimatology, and Paleonotology. The treatment of ancient lake basins is well worth the investment alone. With the help of Grayson you gain an understanding of why there were large lakes in the western US not too long ago and why most of them vanished. I consider the book to be well suited for scientist and non-scientist. If you live in the Great Basin or are just interested in its natural history I would highly recommmend this book.
A concise, readable look at the ancient Great Basin"The Desert's Past" is a very readable book about the prehistory of the Great Basin. From the Ice Age flora and fauna to the first evidence of humans around the ancient lakes, Grayson takes the reader on a journey in a time machine. He incorporates the research of botonists, archaeologists and other scientists into an easily understood history. Although many discoveries -- especially concerning early humans -- have been made since the book was written, most of the book remains valid and is a must-read for anyone interested in the prehistory of the region. Grayson also has a chapter on the Donner Party, which gives insight into why the survivors (mostly women) made it through the tragedy. Highly recommended!

Good Housekeeping Illustrated American Cookbook
Published in Hardcover by Hearst Books (September, 1991)
Average review score:

Can't have too many cookbooks.....Loved this book, can't find enough time to make some of the wonderful things listed in here, due to my 8 hour job, swimming lessons for my twins, and a few college courses. But know it is waiting and willing when I find time.
Delicious !The book is well organized and the instructions are clear with step-by-step illustration. The measurements are accurate and it always looks like the picture. I would say the decoration of the dishes is a bit old fashioned (80s style), but you can always add your own touch. I really like the idea of having all the pictures in the beginning and the recipes after that. The recipes are so delicious and everything I tried was great. The party stuffed chicken is a top request on every occasion.
This is a very good book, however, if you already have The Good Housekeeping Illustrated Cookbook, I do not think you should get this one, because most of the recipes are the same -or very similar. But if this is your first Good Housekeeping Cookbook, then it is highly recommended.
A good start.I got this book when I moved into my first apartment alone. A great start to basic cooking information and recipes.

The New American Garden: Innovations in Residential Landscape Architecture: 60 Case Studies
Published in Paperback by Watson-Guptill Pubns (May, 1998)
Average review score:

Excellent and informative, both for pleasure and referenceThis is an excellent book that looks at many exciting designers and some of their gardens (A.E. Bye, Raymond Jungles, Dan Kiley, Steve Martino, Susan Child, Rios Assoc., Murase, Cardasis, Delaney, Isobelle C. Greene, etc). It is a great inspiration to a landscape designer, and is helpful in that it tells the reader the plant and hard materials that have been used in the featured gardens. It also cites the project brief as well as the site limitations for each garden. A really great book that looks nice on my coffee table AND is useful to me in my work as a landscape designer. Truly inspirational, well-researched, and beauftifully presented. BUY IT!
Innovative and creative look @ American Landscape ArchitectsJames Trulove knows Landscape Architects and has selected a wide ranging group of styles and projects from some of America's best Landscape Architects. To the point text forces the reader to focus on the garden as image, as environment, as designed space! I particularly liked the refreshing, bold, and imaginative tropical gardens of Raymond Jungles, Inc.

Adventures in Understanding
Published in Paperback by Renaissance House Pub (May, 1989)
Average review score:

Peaceful and SatisfyingI had heard a lot about the author's work from a friend of mine, but hadn't had an opppurtunity to read him. Finally I managed to secure this book, and I must say it is excellent. The book is primarily a collection of essays which the author writes from his own experiences. He is a countryman who has moved to the city and describes his dilemmas of living in a city as compared to the country, and the adventures he has, as he goes along making friends and understanding people in the city. There is nothing melodramatic in this work, however it is excellent literature. The author's style is superb and as you read the essays, you get a feel of the cosy atmosphere of the country and the warmth and simplicity of human relationships, which is what most of us crave for but somehow overlook. In his essays Grayson brings out simple but most profound truths about people and the process of living in general. After reading it one can't help but get the feeling that human relationships are so true, simple and beautiful. All that is required is an open, kind, friendly and fearless mind, so that we can understand (as Grayson says)and thus be at peace and in harmony with nature, ourselves, others and life in general. Overall an extremely charming, enjoyable and enlightening read.

AMERICAN BUSINESS
Published in Hardcover by Free Press (February, 1988)
Average review score:

Thank America's Wonder Team for the Dow 10000What can I say? Carla O'Dell and Jack "the Man" Grayson saw the Japanese threat back in the 80s, laid out a plan to deal with it and executed it with aplomb. Their plan not only invigorated the US economy but rocked Japan to the point where they have negative interest rates.
They, and their organization, the APQC, have brought to the forefront of American Business consciousness, the best of breed techniques for maintaining the elusive edge. I am sure that many of their ideas came from the interactive quality environment that they have at their center which is a constantly burbling cauldron of creativity. How lucky are we that they share their hard won quality principles with us.

Collin & Grayson Counties Street Map Guide and Directory
Published in Spiral-bound by Mapsco, Inc. (01 June, 1999)
Average review score:

A must for anyone who lives in North Dallas & Collin County!Mapsco is the true authority when it comes to making maps for Texas cities. Just like the Dallas County edition (which has been published for fifty years), this guide maps the whole area- even the smallest streets, with two types of maps: an overview one, and another that is detailed. There's also a section with maps of sporting and arts venues in the DFW area, the airport, ISD boundaries, and zip codes. Considering the rapid growth in Plano and Frisco (400%! ), they are very up to date. Any driver needs this in the Dallas area!
